Tuesday’s topic: What are some of your big fears as a parent? I know you NEVER stop worrying! I am 33 and my parents still worry about me all the time. Below are my Top 5 Fears of a First Time Mom (FTM) from the past 17 months. Can you relate? What concerns/ed you as a parent?
GERMS: Our daughter was born in February aka prime flu season. I used so much hand sanitizer that I’m not sure what was worse: my peeling hands, leaking tatas, or my post baby belly. BC (Before Child) I was never a germ freak. Hell I will admit it, I didn’t wash my hands all the time until she entered the world. I know gross…Please don’t judge me!
TRIMMING FINGERNAILS: When she was first born I would bite off her nails off as I was nursing her. Great tip for when they are really little by the way. The first time I used the Safety 1st Hospital Choice Nail Clipper, I don’t think I took a millimeter off- I was so petrified to cut her. Lucky for me, my fabulous sitter would cut her nails. I have gotten better at it but I still hate doing it. There is NOTHING worse than when my mom would cut mine too short! (Sorry Mom!)
SUNBURNS: The first summer she was born I was petrified I would miss an area with sunscreen, I was a bad mom for not buying the best sunscreen with no chemicals, and/or I didn’t re-apply enough. Guess what? We made it alive with sunscreens that were full of chemicals; I just can’t justify paying more on sunscreen than I did on a week of baby food. So far, so good; no sunburns and we are outside a lot. My tip is to try to apply sunscreen before leaving the house then reapply every 2-3 hours, and invest in a swimsuit that has sleeves and a good hat for days that you are in the sun all day. I use spray sunscreen to reapply during the day because my little fish will not sit still near any body of water or pool.
FOOD: Just when you get the hang of things…BAM…time to introduce food. Gosh, there were so many things to consider and quite frankly I didn’t have the time to come home after work and make more of a mess! I waited until she was 5 months old to introduce foods since we were traveling, and milk was all she needed. (PTF in Tips) *This means Post to Follow and in the near future I will be discussing the topic in more detail on the blog so stay tuned.
TICKS: I was diagnosed with Chronic Lyme Disease and other co-infections when I was 25; therefore, I am a FREAK about ticks. I actually found one on her in May 2012, and was scared to death. Luckily I saw it! It was on her hip where her diaper attached and it looked like a TINY pin prick. Unfortunately, I never found the tick that was responsible for making me SO sick that my right side of my body went numb and no one knew what was wrong with me. Needless to say, if you ever find a tick and are “cra-cra” like me make sure you remove the ENTIRE thing right away. I took a picture of where the tick was on her body and kept it in a baggy in case I needed to have it tested. I really wanted to torch the fucker, but I resisted. If there is a circle around the bite, called a bulls-eye, a rash develops, or your child doesn’t seem like they are feeling good, I would call the doctor ASAP. (PTF in Tips)
BEES: Not sure why, but my latest and greatest fear is: a) her being stung and b) being allergic to it. I think I need to stop watching my favorite movie of all time, My Girl. I am not sure if it is the heat, but the little yellow and black bastards are EVERYWHERE! We were at Holiday World recently and I felt like Justin Beiber’s body guard most of the day- swatting away at the little shits that were swarming my precious child trying to get a piece of her. If anyone saw me they probably thought I was having a seizure trying to keep them away with my Kung Foo moves.
Well I have officially replaced my FB addition with blogging and can add “Blog-aholic” to my list of issues. People seem to be digging it, which makes my heart happy because I am really enjoying myself! In 24 hours, I have had over 110 likes; which equals a big WHOOP WHOOP! Thank you so much, you guys rock! Now I can blog, post on CGTCM’s (short for City Girl Turn Country Mom) Fan Page and/or Tweet!
Every day I strive to be a better person, mom, wifey, friend, and put a smile on my face and those around me. I don’t claim to be a good writer or to know any-and-everything about being a mom. I can see the teachers and English majors cringing as they read my run on sentences and the mothers of 4 rolling their eyes at my “so-called issues”. What I hope to provide in my blog is an honest and entertaining perspective of “A day in the life” of being a first time mom living in the boonies for ALL (not just moms) to enjoy.
In a nutshell I was very worried people would think my blog was totally lame, and I am BEYOND ecstatic that people are actually enjoying it. If you think it is mind-numbing and can’t stand to see my name or CTTCM pop up on your Newsfeed, then I apologize and I am not insulted if you unfriend me! If you enjoy it, then please like my page, post comments about what you like, what you are interested in hearing more about, and share it with the world!
